Course Description:

When addressing parental substance misuse, multiple factors complicate assessment and evaluation. Determining risk to children, impact on the family unit, as well as need for formal treatment process necessitate a firm grasp on the etiology of substance problems, comorbidity of trauma, and effective community resources. Given the intergenerational nature of trauma and substance misuse, this presentation will draw on two integrated service approaches designed to address stigma, misconceptions about trauma and substance misuse, and indicated treatment regimens.
