Course Description:

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Medical Inter-Professional Grand Rounds is a one-hour presentation. On Monday, October 19, Elizabeth, Aguila, MD, PGY-4, will present “Role of Inpatient Rehabilitation Post Cardiac Transplantation”

Objectives:

By the conclusion of the lecture participants will:

1. Summarize the epidemiology and types of heart transplantation

2. Describe the physiologic response after heart transplant

3. Analyze the evidence of post-cardiac transplant rehabilitation

 

 

Applicable to Social Work Practice:

Post-transplant patients, especially cardiac transplant patients usually require intensive rehabilitation prior to discharge home. Understanding the pathophysiology, evidence for, and types of therapy is important to know to provide the best care for this population. Social workers are involved with transplant patients and aid in pre-evaluation, psychosocial informed consent, and hospital discharge planning.
