Course Description:
Working with pediatric patients requires an arsenal of tools and experience. This 2-day conference, November 6-7, is sponsored by Kids Kicking Cancer, which currently helps over 6,000 children in 72 facilities and 8 countries. Children struggling with cancer, blood diseases and many other debilitating conditions train with black belt martial artists in hospitals and outpatient settings. The children who join the program become part of what is called the Heroes Circle. They learn therapeutic martial arts, breathing and meditative techniques that help them reduce pain and emotional distress during painful procedures, health episodes, or traumatic experiences.
This year’s conference will include presentations on the latest in psychosocial and palliative care. Hear from experts in the field and learn about innovative therapy techniques. Day 1 of the conference will include a keynote address from Elisha Waldman, M.D., on Cultural Humility in Healthcare. Other topics include: Effects of Kids Kicking Cancer on Brain Systems Underlying Pain and Emotional Distress, Awakening Compassion in Healthcare, Pain Extraction®, the Breath Brake®, and the Martial Arts Super Power Book.
Day 2 focuses on the application of this material. The day will consist of hands-on experiential training of Kids Kicking Cancer techniques and how to bring some of these effective tools to one’s own facility. Attendees will learn more about the therapeutic martial arts techniques and the Martial Arts Super Power Book. For more information visit https://kidskickingcancer.org/conf2019
The conference is sponsored by Kids Kicking Cancer in collaboration with The Children’s Foundation.
