Trans* Allyship in Clinical Services: Fundamentals for Micro Practice

  • Grand Valley State University Bicycle Factory 201 Front Avenue Southwest Grand Rapids, MI, 49504 United States (map)

Course Description:

Social justice is foundational to the profession of social work, and advocacy is deeply rooted in its practice. While most social workers heed the call to challenge the balance of power and privilege at the macro-level, addressing them in clinical practice can prove difficult – especially when opportunity is limited and relevant support is scarce. This program will explore issues of power and privilege as they manifest between cisgender clinicians and the transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary clients that they serve. Introductory clinical skills and ethical issues in treatment will be examined.
