Implicit Bias for Social Workers

Course Description:

This training will use the social standard of cultural competence as the framework for exploring implicit bias. Specific standards including awareness, professional education, language and communication and leadership to advance cultural competence will guide this workshop. Self- awareness will include completing Implicit Association Test (IAT). Professional education will examine training and learning initiatives that support service to diverse populations. Language and communication will be reviewed as a means of reducing barriers in accessing and delivery of health care/human services. Specific strategies to remedy the negative impact of bias on the individual, mezzo and systemic level will also be identified.
