Course Description:
Transplantation is a lifelong journey that begins with the diagnosis of organ failure and remains with the patient as they learn to live with their new organ. Many transplant patients are receiving or donating an organ for the first time, meaning they are less aware of the lifelong implications following these operations. Whether you are caring for a patient before or after an organ transplant, it’s important as providers to have knowledge of the entire transplant journey. This presentation will provide information on the history of transplant, what programs are currently offered and lifestyle modifications for post-transplant patients. The evaluation process of transplant patients as well as the surgery process and updates to procurement technology will also be discussed.
