Removing Barriers & Building Trust: The Health and Wellness of Boys and Men of Color

Course Description:

This workshop will address barriers that negatively impact equitable, client-centered service delivery and outcomes for black and brown boys. This training will also explore strategies for building and maintaining trust between family-serving professionals and Boys and Young Men of Color. Throughout the workshop, participants will explore the one-sided narrative that creates oppressive assumptions, biases, and prejudices that facilitate a stance of dominance that rest in our institutions and Social Work Practices. Lastly, we will critically examine the intergenerational notions of maleness and manhood and how these notions impact the relationships between social work practice and the experiences of Boys and Young Men of color.
