Course Description:
Participants will be introduced to Motivational Interviewing which is an evidence-based, client-centered, directive communication style that aims to elicit a client’s own motivation for change by paying detailed attention to client language. Nuanced clinician responses to this language evokes the language of change from clients in an atmosphere of compassion and self-efficacy. Participants will be introduced to the basic OARS skills of open ended questions, affirmations, reflections and summaries and have the opportunity to practice these skills.
