Course Description:
Understanding the landscape of maternal health and the disparities within the system for women of color and infants is imperative for social workers to effectively support young families in the community.
• To provide education on the historical and multi-generational events that continue to impact birth and postpartum mental health treatment for women of color.
• To increase self-awareness of implicit bias and how it may impact the care you provide as a professional.
• To educate professionals about the disparities in birth outcomes, current barriers to treatment and mental health impacts for women of color.
• To provide culturally sensitive and appropriate clinical intervention strategies to foster improvement in physical and mental health.
