Chronic Disorganization (CD) challenges occur with individuals have disorganization that has persisted for long periods of time, has negative impacts on their day to day life, has not responded to repeated self- help efforts and are expected to continue into the future. Brain based conditions such as OCD, ADD/ADHD, Depression and Anxiety as well as Hoarding disorder all are part of chronic disorganization. More specifically hoarding disorder is a stand alone DSM-V classified mental disorder as of 2013. The prevalence of hoarding disorder in our society is evident by the research indicating 5% of the population has the disorder. The disorder is many times co-occurring with the other brain based disorders such as, ADD, Depression, Anxiety, OCD and more. The CD (chronic disorganization) impacts the person’s family and friend relationships, functioning of activities of daily living, physical surroundings, mental health wellbeing, as well as, the community at large especially is hoarding disorder is also present. These homes many times can be a significant health hazard to the person, hazardous to the emergency personnel who respond to calls and to the community who may deal with pests/infestations, excess clutter, etc. Education of professionals in the healthcare field is essential in treating and working with individuals who have chronic disorganization and hoarding disorder challenges.
