Combat Veterans, PTSD, and Gambling Disorder-A Deeper Discussion Part II

  • Health Management Systems of America 601 Washington Blvd. Detroit, MI United States (map)

Course Description:

The presentation will be an overview of the DSMV Diagnostic Changes to PTSD(with special focus on Criteria E-2-“Reckless an Self Destructive Behavior”) and the new classification of Gambling Disorder as Substance Related and Addictive Disorders and its implications for combat veterans post 2001. It will also look at the different dimensions of stress and how combat service creates survival skills that, while necessary in war, can often remain activated post war and can, at times, overwhelm a veteran biologically, emotionally, spirituality, neurologically and many other ways. It will stress the importance of screening and proper referrals, within the VA’s Medical Centers, as well as civilian resources. It will also include a historical overview of the Department of Defense and their policies on Gambling. This will be a continuation of a workshop that took place in November 2018.
