Common Childhood Diagnoses and Directive Play Therapy Techniques That Help Treat Them

Course Description:

In this workshop, you will gain knowledge on common childhood mental health disorders and experientially explore ways to treat these disorders in play therapy. You will explore symptoms typically seen in common diagnoses of attention deficit disorder (ADHD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and adjustment issues. You will examine the overlapping themes such as lack of self-regulation, anger management issues, inattention, social skill problems, and coping skills. You will learn play therapy activities to explicate ways to help treat these common issues through play therapy. This workshop will utilize active learning, including strategies for feeling awareness and identification, projective projects for assessment and to increase self-awareness, anger management activities, teaching social skills, and relaxation techniques.
