Course Description:
This course will discuss the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), a collaborative research study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente that began in 1995. The two instructors will provide information about the longterm impact of childhood experiences that include but are not limited to child abuse, neglect, parental mental illness, parental substance abuse, and witnessing domestic violence and/or other violent crimes in the home. Research shows the greater number of ACE's experienced, the greater the impact these experiences have on an individual over time. The instructors will also show the movie "Resilience" which will be followed by group discussion to include identification of behaviors and other factors that promote resilience.
