Resolving Rather than Managing Chronic Pain: The Brain's Response to Trauma

  • Greater Lansing Association of Realtors 4039 Legacy Parkway Lansing, MI, 48911 United States (map)

Course Description:

Health professionals often work with clients that present with chronic health symptoms that appear to have no direct explanation, including pain, anxiety, depression, fatigue and insomnia.  In this workshop, you will learn about the individual differences between clients that are experiencing pain and how trauma and unresolved emotional experiences often contribute to these conditions.  You will learn about the current research related to clients with chronic pain that do not have a nociceptive component to their pain, but rather pain that is generated by neural pathways in the brain. You will learn about the neurological basis for this view and strategies for working with such clients.  In addition, you will learn about the overall impact of trauma on the brain and how it contributes to chronic pain.
