Some Thoughts on Retirement, Mortality and Aging

Psychoanalysts are known to have difficulty facing their mortality. The presenter will examine the nature of the resistances and the clinical implications of this difficulty which also manifests itself in a reluctance to draw up a professional will and a reluctance to consider retirement when appropriate. He will highlight the complexity of the issues related to considering retirement as well as the resistances to it.

After attending the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss psychoanalysts' and psychotherapists' resistances to facing their mortality and their clinical significance.

2. Explain the importance of drawing up a professional will and preparing for retirement.
