Course Description:
This program addresses the “elephant’ in the room when there are boundary violations. This is not often discussed sufficiently and the situation here is specifically directed at an interdisciplinary program in music and psychoanalysis that is informative about how attraction to celebrity can occur on many levels. Having gained national attention, psychoanalysts may be treating more individuals involved (or know someone involved) in this difficult issue where power differentials between people are alluring and boundaries are enacted. The psychological and institutional fall out from boundary crossings is powerful, shameful, and harmful to everyone involved. Understanding and dealing with multiple issues that occur in such situations will be addressed in this presentation.
After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the attraction of famous people and other professionals.
2. Analyze the underlying determinants and temptations that may lead to boundary crossing.
