Mind-Body Somatic Techniques for Pain and Psychotherapy: What Mental Health Clinicians Need to Know

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

The objectives of this workshop are to make clinicians aware of somatic (body) based techniques as adjuncts to psychotherapy in the effort to heal the emotional and physical effects of pain and trauma, through the direct experience of intero-ception and empowerment; the neuro-biological origins of pain and emotions will be described as well as techniques to interrupt and redirect thoughts -that can in turn activate the healing process. These specific techniques can complement cognitive therapies or even “stand alone” and participants will have opportunities to practice them in break-out sessions. Consideration for the needs of vulnerable clients will be a major focus, with somatic techniques appropriate to avoid re-triggering these types of individuals. This presentation will consist of power-point lecture and discussion as well as an optional experiential trauma-sensitive yoga practice, accessible for mat or chair. Participants should wear clothing that is comfortable for physical movement.
