Course Description:
This webinar will present different strategies to help the attendee better understand and manage their own pain, or that of an individual under their care. An introduction to pain- including different categories and an etiology of pain will be reviewed. Various treatment approaches to pain will be addressed, including a provider approach, movement-based interventions, and psychological approaches. The provider’s approach to pain management will be addressed to include pharmaceutical therapy as well as the importance of utilizing other multidisciplinary team members. The behavioral health approach to pain management considers biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to pain. Treatments that address these factors will be explored. Physical evaluation of pain, modalities and manual techniques and the importance of exercise and good ergonomics will also be presented. Pain and the unique experiences of a traumatic brain injury client will be explored. Attendees will then have an opportunity to synthesize the information presented throughout the webinar through the use of real-case examples and review.
