Course Description:
Systemic oppression of Indigenous women and Two Spirit individuals has often led to the invisibility of Indigenous people’s leadership, history, work, and voices in the public consciousness. A disproportionately large numbers of indigenous people, particularly women, are modern human trafficking victims, and indigenous women in some tribal communities face murder rates more than 10 times the national average (US Department of Justice).
This live webinar will explore historical and current issues relating to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Children & Two-Spirit Individuals (MMIWC2-S) and why trafficking individuals can be prevalent in these communities. Attendees will learn the context of historical trauma and colonization, and the huge role they play in the continued perpetuation of why Indigenous people keep coming up missing at such alarming rates.
This training offers 2.5 ethics CEs. CEs also qualify for Michigan's human trafficking requirements.
