Course Description:.

 Patients commonly seek guidance from their physician for regarding cognitive decline to determine if what they perceive is normal or the beginning of a dementia process, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Healthcare providers should be able to provide guidance, based on their patients’ clinical presentation. Not all patients require an extensive neuropsychological workup, but some may need this. This lecture will help healthcare providers decide how to respond to their patients’ concerns by discussing the primary behaviors associated to cognitive aging and summarizing the epidemiologic significance of Subjective Cognitive Decline/Impairment. Attendees will also be able to identify potential relationships between cognition, brain atrophy, and changes in cerebral white matter and assess how to respond to patients who present with perceived age-related cognitive disorder.
