Course Description:
Every time an analyst engages with a patient, the analyst brings his or her values into the interaction. Whether the analyst chooses to share those values is a different matter. In the past, neutrality and anonymity were the norm. But, in this time of extreme political turbulence and polarization, are neutrality and anonymity the best therapeutic approach? In fact, are they even possible? Using both actual and fictionalized clinical material, this presentation will examine some of the varied responses to this most complex question, including addressing the thorny issue of countertransference.
