Interprofessional Grand Rounds: Introduction to Safe Opioid Prescribing: Part I

  • Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital POB Meijer Conf Center 350 Lafayette Avenue Southeast Grand Rapids, MI, 49503 United States (map)

Course Description:

Many patients who come to rehabilitation facilities may have prescriptions for opioids, such as surgical/orthopedic/polytrauma patients, those with advanced cancer, and/or a history of acute or chronic pain. Safely rehabilitating these patients includes safe prescribing, dose adjustments, and tapering when appropriate. The CDC data for substance and opioid related deaths must be factored into safe prescribing. The epidemic of opioid related deaths has created a culture of opiophobia which leads to suboptimal prescribing and can compound problems both in healthcare and our communities
