Course Description:

This course will address how attitudes/values may influence clinical practice when working with SUD clients, diversity of the SUD population, setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, mandated clients, and ethics and technology.  Presentation and discussion will also address the benefits of increased self-awareness and self-protection.  This course will also address how to begin to clarify chronic pain needs versus addiction, how to assist clients in understanding the power of the mind/body connection in the addiction process and pain management, and how to assist clients in identifying healthy distractions to help decrease the need for pain medication.  Topics also include identifying exacerbating factors of chronic pain and interventions that go beyond medication.
