Yoga as A Tool For Social Workers

Course Description:

The ancient practice of Yoga is found to have many health benefits especially when combined with Western medicine and mental health interventions.  This workshop will entail an overview of Yoga from India, how Yoga came to the West and the recent medical-neurological research supporting the efficacy for Mind-Body integrated interventions.   Special attention will be paid to working with clients suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as human service workers affected by Secondary Trauma.  Participants will have a chance to participate in learning Yogic- breath practices, combined with simple, safe movements adaptable to the clinical setting.  Participants will be able to experience first- hand the benefits of Yoga practices that may be incorporated into a Self-Care plan.
