Culture, Diversity and Social and Environmental Justice in Post-Hurricane Puerto Rico: A Hybrid-Travel Continuing Education Course for Social Workers

Course Description:

This is a hybrid travel CE course in San Juan Puerto Rico intended for the professional development of social workers and case managers. The online and experiential components of the course focus on diversity, cultural competency, and social, economic and eviornmental justice in post-hurricane Puerto Rico. The course will also address implications for trauma assessment and treatment, vicarious trauma, secondary traumatic stress, self-care and resiliency factors. Participants will travel to Puerto Rico to engage in community-based and cultural activities guided by social work instructors and local experts. The course contains 40 CE units: with 7 CEs in an online format, 6 CEs in a face-to-face pre-travel session on January 11, and 27 CEs on site in San Juan, Puerto Rico January 30 - February 4, 2020
