Course Description:
The Center for Relationship and Sexual Health (CRSH) is pleased to announce a new series of casual panel discussion workshops titled “What’s It Like to Be in My Shoes?”. These workshops have been designed to encourage learning directly from a member (or members) of the minority population. With cultural competency and empathy as the basis, these workshops will offer brief educational presentation, while providing the opportunity to gain first-person knowledge, through facilitated discussion and direct questions and answers, facilitated by Mark McMillan, a Behavioral Health and Addiction Therapist from the Center. Each 3-hour workshop will start with a 1-hour educational presentation, followed by a casual panel discussion. Join us at our workshop “Being in a Lesbian/Gay Couple,” where Mark McMillan will facilitate an educational segment, leading to a panel discussion with members of the Metro Detroit LGBTQ+ community who are in a same gendered or gay/lesbian couple. The educational proportion will also cover broad provider and other treatment considerations for same gendered married couples. This workshop will offer the opportunity to hear first-hand what it’s like being treated as a lesbian or gay couple in a clinical setting, and an opportunity to bring your own questions from your current case load.
