Everyday Ethics: How We Develop Our Ethics, Teach Them to Our Kids, and Use Them in Our Social Work Practice

  • Centrum Office Center 24901 Northwestern Highway Suite 422 Southfield, MI, 48075 United States (map)

Course Description:

This course will help make ethics more fun and simple.  It's not enough just to be a caring social worker or to believe you're a basically honest person.  Ethics help inform our individual and collective mission as social workers and help keep us from losing our licenses, reputations, and inadvertently hurting those we serve.  We'll break things down to understand social workers' ethical responsibilities to our clients, our colleagues, our practice settings, to our profession, and to the broader society.  We'll cover the topics of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence and discuss the tricky real life situations we may find ourselves in.  The presenter will also explore the topics of honesty and integrity, disturbing trends among our youth and society - lying, cheating and stealing; how bad these problems are and if we are a part of it in the way we model our honesty or confront dishonesty in our parenting and in our own behaviors.
