Marginalized Populations: A Step Forward in Understanding

  • Bay de Noc Community College 2001 North Lincoln Road Escanaba, MI, 49829 United States (map)

Course Description:

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender older adults have unique physical and mental health needs.  A history of trauma related to LGBT identity makes it more difficult for these individuals to trust health and human services providers.  These experiences have often been ignored by those focusing on gerontology, as well as those involved with LGBT studies.  We will explore the challenges and needs of this population, learn interpersonal skills necessary to create safe and affirming relationships with LGBT older adults.
