Social Workers Integrating Local and Global Perspectives in Addressing Social Issues

  • UM Flint North Bank Center Park Place 400 N. Saginaw Street Flint, MI, 48502 United States (map)

Course Description:

The symposium introduces participants to concepts related to global justice and highlights our global interdependence in the address of social problems. Despite the increased influences of globalization in our lives, there continues to be a disconnect in understanding local-global context of social problems, a disconnect in the recognition of the influences and impact of global power asymmetries upon local experiences in economic, socio-political, cultural and physical environmental realm.

The symposium is part of social workers forum to share ideas, approaches that are humane, multidimensional in addressing global injustices while committing to decoloniality and incorporating indigenous ways in rebuilding healthy and vibrant communities.
