Course Description:

The health consequences of social isolation are often overlooked when one thinks of feeling lonely. Many people don’t realize that being socially isolated increases one’s risk of dementia, heart disease, and all-cause mortality. This presentation provides important information regarding the health consequences, risk factors and resources available for addressing social isolation.

Ageism, like any form of discrimination, has important and harmful impacts on the lives of older adults. In addition to learning aobut the personal impact ageism can have, attendees will learn about how ageism affects communities and policies. Furthermore, participants will learn how to combat ageism and expand opportunities for older adults.
