Intersections: Mental Health and Students of Color

  • Eastern Michigan University Boone Hall Room G12A Ypsilanti, MI 48197 United States (map)

Course Description:

With the increasing number of college students of color attending Predominantly White Institutions (PWI’s), it is important that higher education professionals gain an understanding of the unique experiences these students have on campus and the impact to their mental health.  During this session, participants will engage in a discussion about a variety of microaggressions college students of color experience, their mental health needs and factors contributing to students of color seeking help.   Attendees will also discuss common practices to avoid when supporting students of color that could, unintentionally, work to further alienate them from their institution.
