Course Description:
Practice Gap/Need and Course Description: Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts are often unaware of the clinical concept of a "universal act", as well as that of "noumenon". These concepts will be described, along with how they are thought to facilitate the access to spontaneous painful memories, and hence a greater realization of inner authority.
After attending this presentation, participants will be able to: 1) Differentiate detachment from the formation of deep beliefs. 2) Develop clinical tools to help analysts/therapists be better able to engage their own primordial minds and thus, better utilize the “universal act” in helping patients discuss painful memories and gain access to their own inner authority. 3) Integrate Symington’s ideas of detachment and deep beliefs to psychoanalytic treatment.
