Human Trafficking: Legal, Social and Clinical Perspectives

Course Description:

New Oakland’s April 11 continuing education event will address the social, legal and clinical factors surrounding the growing problem of human trafficking in our communities. The event will be anchored around two main presentations: 1. Melissa Novock of Wayne County Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners program in of the country’s foremost experts on the investigative and legal structures currently in place to identify and prevent trafficking. Novock will address the many often hidden factors that underlie human trafficking in our communities and highlight strategies for integration of public response to address human trafficking in all its forms.

2. Dr. Robert Lagrou of New Oakland Family Centers is a leading Detroit-area psychiatrist and former Medical Director at Henry Ford Kingswood Hospital. Dr. Lagrou’s presentation will draw on his extensive experience supporting the physical and mental health needs of individuals who have been victims and have become survivors of human trafficking in our region.
