Course Description:
As we grow older and live longer, many of us may live with a chronic illness, and perhaps more than one chronic illness. Chronic illness diagnoses come with physical, emotional and social pain. Treatments for pain are many, including medical treatments and psychological and social interventions. Social workers will interact with people in pain and must be aware of the role pain plays in attempts to be healthy. This 2-hour session will discuss the prevalence of chronic pain, examples of how social workers will interact with people in pain, and ways to assess and treat pain in healthy ways.
