Reckoning with Sexuality

  • Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute 32841 Middlebelt Road Farmington Hills, MI, 48334 United States (map)

Course Description:

Practice Gap/Need and Course Description:

The sexual drive has been diluted in more recent application and Dr. Kulish’s paper demonstrates through a case description the importance of the analyst/therapist focusing on the sexual drive in order to help a patient grow and relieve emotional suffering.  In this paper, Dr. Kulish revisits Freudian theory while comparing it and emphasizing the added utility of LaPlanche’s theoretical emphasis on the sexual drive in clinical work.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize the importance of an awareness of the sexual drive of the patient in clinical work.

2. Identify the ways that an increased awareness of patients’ sexual drive by the analyst can

help foster the therapeutic action of patients in analytic treatment.
