Course Description:
Citing recent infant mental health research and the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, this course will describe the range of social, emotional, and neurobiological effects of abuse and neglect on young children. In addition, participants will learn about the importance of supporting caregivers' use of mentalization in order to support infants and toddlers who have experienced abuse and neglect to develop reflective functioning, an essential component for future relationships. The course will provide participants with strategies for working with caregivers who are parenting very young children in foster care who have experienced complex trauma.
