By the conclusion of the lecture participants will:
1. Identify the distinguishing characteristics of professional grief
2. Recognize symptoms and consequences of professional burnout
3. Discuss methods of maintaining professional balance while working in a “high loss work environment”
4. Describe techniques to process professional grief
Applicable to Social Work Practice:
Some occupations deal with death on a regular basis. These numerous losses can create a very stressful work environment if professionals are not diligent about processing their emotions and engaging in self-care. Learning to recognize professional grief and establishing healthy coping strategies can help prevent burnout and help improve patient care.
