Course Description:

This course, “The Sleep-Loss Epidemic – Understanding and Managing Sleep Disorders,” is designed to help participants understand the clinical correlates and consequences of insomnia and related sleep disorders. Topics include the five stages of sleep and how they influence daytime efficiency, coping ability and problem solving skills. The effects of everyday stress and major life events on sleep architecture are considered as well as the role of medications, diabetes, dementia and
chronic pain on sleep stages. The course also reviews common sleep disorders and how lifestyle changes can help treat insomnia and the depression and anxiety
often experienced by concomitantly by patients.
