Medical Marijuana

  • Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital POB Meijer Conf Center 305 Lafayette Avenue Southeast Grand Rapids, MI, 49503 United States (map)

Course Description:

As the landscape of health care evolves, patients and their families have increased their questions, access, and use of medical marijuana. In the state of Michigan, medical marijuana is legal, however it continues to be federally illegal. Social workers are committed through NASW code of ethics to assist in empowering patients to engage in their health care and needs, while advocating for their access to resources. The social worker’s role on the multidisciplinary team is to partner with the team and patient to ensure the patient has access to reliable, evidence based information to make informed decisions about their plan of care. Nationally, social workers are facing the dilemma of limited knowledge and resources regarding medical marijuana. This presentation opens opportunity to review resources locally, regionally, and nationally.
