ACT: Mindful Based Treatment for Addiction with the Self-Loathing Client; and Pain Management

  • Jewish Family Services 6555 West Maple Road West Bloomfield Township, MI, 48322 United States (map)

Course Description:

ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is an empirically based approach, part of the Third Wave of mindful-based CBT approaches. ACT targets psychological inflexible mental processes which influence the development of avoidant repertoires, often turning into compulsions. Trying to treat clients who are both addicted and filled with self-hatred can be challenging. This workshop will focus on using ACT in the context of treating addictive behavior and promoting resiliency in clients suffering with self-loathing tendencies. Attendees will learn tools to help clients cope with difficult beliefs, promote self-compassion and enhance life engagement. Clinician self-care will also be addressed. The Workshop will include ACT based treatment for pain management.
