Complex Ethical Issues: Working with Children, Adolescents, Young Adults, and Families

  • Live Webinar United States (map)

Course Description:

For NASW Specialty Practice Members only.

Under what circumstances should a social worker share confidential information with an adolescent client's parents? Can a minor consent to substance abuse treatment without the knowledge or consent of her parents? How should social workers respond to an adolescent client's Facebook "friend" request or questions about a social worker's personal life? What should a social worker do if a parent or a parent's attorney wants to examine clinical notes summarizing counseling of the child? This webinar will explore complex ethical issues involved in the delivery of social work services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Frederic Reamer will provide an overview of challenging issues pertaining to client privacy and confidentiality, boundaries, dual relationships, conflicts of interest, documentation, management of clinical records, and use of digital technology and social media. Dr. Reamer will provide an overview of key ethical standards and practical risk-management strategies.
