Using Play and Expressive Arts Therapies to Work with Traumatized Children

  • The Leona Group 2123 University Park Drive OMI, 48864 United States (map)

Course Description:

This Ruth Koehler Endowed workshop will introduce Flexibly Sequential Play Therapy, a developmentally sensitive trauma model that translates evidence informed trauma interventions into fun, playful, and clinically sound play-based techniques. The model shows how to develop a bedrock of safety and nurture through the play environment that mitigates the family's approach to hard content. Treatment goals will target enhancing safety and security, assessing and augmenting coping, soothing the physiology, creating trauma narratives through play and other expressive arts, and addressing cognitive distortions. You will leave with a better understanding of how to weave directive and non-directive approaches together while practically expanding their tool kits by dozens of interventions.
