Mindful Based Treatments for Anxiety-Based Addictions and Pain Management

  • Jewish Family Service 6555 West Maple Road West Bloomfield Township, MI, 48322 United States (map)

Course Description:

Anxiety and Addiction are a confounding pair causing frustration and confusion for client and therapist alike. Anxiety fuels addiction and addiction maintains anxiety. This workshop will focus on empirically based mindful approaches, including ACT: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, in treating both simultaneously. ACT has been found to promote long term behavioral change and life engagement for individuals suffering with anxiety-based addictive disorders and is used in the VA as a primary treatment for substance addiction and anxiety disorders, including PTSD. This workshop will also include two hours of pain management treatment using these same approaches.
