Course Description:

Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). This course is designed to provide an overview of the SBIRT protocol and guide you through the steps of implementation. SBIRT is an evidence-based practice used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use of and addiction to alcohol and other drugs.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, you will be able to:

Identify various screening tools that can be used in a variety of settings.

Understand signs and symptoms of substance use and intoxication; examples of the different drug categories; and what is considered risky drinking patterns.

Recognize aspects of Motivational Interviewing, change talk, and the readiness ruler.

Determine methods for creating goals with clients during the intervention and recommend treatment referrals, when necessary.
