Course Description:
Neurotransmitters are vital chemical messengers that play a pivotal role in the brain’s motor and mental functions. Thus, it is crucial that all clinicians and healthcare workers are fully informed about the importance of neurotransmission that even slight changes in neurotransmitter levels can contribute to brain disorders or neurological problems that often manifests in motor problems. This home-study course thoroughly examines the significance of neurotransmitters on thought, mood, emotions, and behavior.
Learning about neural circuits, neuronal synapses, and neurotransmitters altered in people with brain disorders are critical to formulating treatments and prevention strategies. Commonly known neurotransmitters, namely dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin that are linked to many motor and brain disorders, like Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Tourette’s Syndrome, Lewy Body Disease (LBD), Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), depression, and schizophrenia are identified and explored. Antidepressants, anti-psychotics, sedative-hypnotics, benzodiazepines, and barbiturates are among the medications whose mechanisms, potential targets, and side effects are also reported.
