Course Description:
This course, “Social Anxiety” examines what is meant by the term social anxiety or social phobia and shyness. In addition, this course will provide social workers with
an introduction to the emotional state known as social anxiety, and its close relative, shyness. Shy or socially anxious individuals make up a large percentage of the
population and hence it is incumbent upon the social worker to know how best to approach these individuals. Strategies that social workers can use to help their
clients reduce or eliminate the often debilitating consequences of social anxiety or shyness will also be discussed.
