Perverse Psychoanalytic Outcomes - they sure can feel good!

  • Michigan League 911 N. University Ann Arbor 48104 United States (map)

Course Description:

Many analyses may end with a sense that not all issues have been resolved.  This case study shows how an apparently successful and "beautiful" ending to an analysis could be seen as both a collusion between analyst and analysand and as a last-ditch effort on the part of the patient to avoid the pain he associated with intimacy. Both the collusion and the denial of intimacy are hallmarks of perverse scenarios.  This case makes a link between perverse scenarios and narcissistic defensive structures.
