Course Description:
This course is designed to educate professional service providers who provide care to people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or other dementia and/or their family members and care partners. Gain insight into the final stage of life, how to prepare for it, how to recognize it, and how to provide support to those experiencing it and their caregivers. Learn how to apply person-centered strategies to minimize distress, maximize well-being, and ensure meaningful communication with the person, family, and care team. Students will also participate in group activities led inside of Schoolcraft College’s Simulation Lab. The Sim Lab, which is equipped with a variety of true-to-life mannequins, will provide students with visual, tactile, and experiential learning, as they engage in realistic end of life case scenarios.
