Parent-child visitations can have a life-long impact on children and families, yet our system often fails to recognize the importance of these visits on child and parent wellness. Parenting times can be an opportunity to not only improve parenting skills, but also enhance parent-child communication, identify family strengths, engage foster parents, and give hope to the family. Within this training, participants should come willing to discuss their experiences with supervising and facilitating parenting times, both positive and negative. Discussion will occur regarding how special populations (racial minorities, parents or children with special needs, non-English speaking clients) may benefit from non-traditional parenting time opportunities. Participants should arrive open to thinking of options outside of the standard agency visit room visitations and how our system can improve. Participants will leave energized to make a positive impact on the families they serve and advocate for positive changes within parenting times.
