  • Corewell Commons 21450 Archwood Circle Farmington Hills, MI, 48336 United States (map)

Course Description:Dr. Newton has worked in a variety of settings, providing mental health services, case management, and clinical oversight to a wide range of individuals. She began her career as a case manager with Orchards Children’s Services in Detroit working with children and families in the Wayne County foster care system. She then spent 13 years at Rainbow Rehabilitation Centers providing services to adults and children with traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. In addition to her clinical work, she was an adjunct professor of psychology at Baker College of Michigan for seven years, specializing in human sexuality, personality psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology courses.

The focus of this presentation is about unresolved psychological trauma, and it's impact on the development of chronic pain syndrome. Special attention will be given to the geriatric population and chronic pain syndrome, however, the discussion does include all age groups. This presentation will help the practitioner identify the differences between acute pain and chronic pain, learn about the different treatment modalities for chronic pain, and give some case examples of the examples of the efficacy of these treatments.
